Your city, village or town is being invaded! The home based or home bound entrepreneurs are coming, and they are coming in numbers never before seen. They come in many forms; full-time entrepreneurs, soloists, second income earners, tele-workers or internet mavens. They’re everywhere, they’re tech savvy, and they have a quiet but consistent impact on the local economy.
The interesting thing about this next generation worker is that for the most part they are owners or former executives, and they have many traits in common. They are independent by their very nature and they are constantly looking for new, more efficient ways to get things done. Networking is a key component in their personal marketing strategy and they are excellent collaborators. Technology is their best friend and – you can generally find them in a coffee shop near you!
Long story short, they are a lot like you without the bricks and mortar. And, they are in need of your services. Marketing to a stealthy workforce is not all peaches and cream, however. As with all marketing, there are some tricks to the trade.
· Know what they need – View your offering through the eyes of a home based executive
· Partner with non-competitive businesses to host a Home Based Business Fair
· Work with Town Officials to sponsor a Home Based Business Recognition Day
· Collect contact information and begin your own HBB marketing effort
· Offer unique specials targeted to this segment of the market
There are an estimated 38,000,000 people working full or part time from their homes. I know because I am one of them. Things I look for as I work from home include; technological connectivity, excellent child care, home management support with minimal interruptions in my routines, and some sort of connection to the outside world. And, no, I don’t think that is too much to ask. After all, I am an executive!
I am constantly on the lookout for goods and services that can make my “independent” world run smoothly. If you have something to offer – you are my new best friend.
